Optics
The AQUANAL®-PROFESSIONAL SPECTRO 1000 is a single-beam spectral photometer (see illustration). The light source is a tungsten halogen lamp with flash
function. The lamp is switched on only momentarily for the duration of the measurement process1), and there is therefore no need for a warm-up period. The
AQUANAL®-PROFESSIONAL SPECTRO 1000 is ready to perform a self-test as soon as it is switched on.
The light passes through an entry slot onto the monochromator, where it is split into spectral ranges. The monochromator is a holographically produced, transparent
grating. The movable mirror ensures that light of the desired wavelength is automatically focused in such a way that it passes through the exit slot into the sample
chamber and hence through the water sample. The light that is not absorbed by the sample travels to the detector of a silicon photodiode, evaluated by a microprocessor
and shown as a result in the display.
(Exception: permanent light is used for a wavelength scan).
Multifunctional Sample Chamber
Round vials measuring 16 mm and 24 mm in diameter and rectangular cells with path lengths from 10 to 50 mm may be used without an adapter.
Self-test
After it is switched on, the AQUANAL®-PROFESSIONAL SPECTRO 1000 automatically performs a self-test beginning with a function test of the stepping motor and
the halogen lamp, followed by an optics test. For this purpose, the unit has a built-in didymium glass filter. This filter checks the correct wavelength setting. Finally, the
memory functions are tested.
Maintenance
Thanks to the design of the AQUANAL®-PROFESSIONAL SPECTRO 1000 , the only maintenance that is required is replacement of the light source. The latter is
situated on the rear of the photometer in an easily accessible position. Replacement is fast and simple and does not require any tools. The positioning of the assembly
ensures optimum focusing of the halogen lamp.
Power supply for the AQUANAL®-PROFESSIONAL SPECTRO 1000
The required input voltage is 10 V. The AQUANAL®-PROFESSIONAL SPECTRO 1000 is connected to an external power pack as standard. Battery operation is
also possible (see Accessories).
New Methods
The number and variety of test methods are continuously adjusted to suit market requirements. These new methods can be added easily and quickly using the supplied
software.
You can find updates for new methods and additional languages on this website.
Choice of Language
The user prompt in the display can be switched to German, English and French. An additional language can also be integrated. The required software is on the supplied
diskette. Latin characters.
Printer/PC Connection
On the rear of the AQUANAL®-PROFESSIONAL SPECTRO 1000 photometer, there is an RS232 interface with a 9-pin D-Sub connector for connection of a PC or a
printer with serial interface.
Printing Data
Every result is printed with date, time, reg. no, code no., measuring range and method number.
Storing Data
You can store results of programmed and user-specific methods (polynomes) in a memory with a capacity of 760 data sets. Alongside the result, the data sets contain
information on method, date and time of the test.
User Prompt
The user prompt feature is highly convenient and easy to understand. The user prompt guides the reader step by step all the way through to the test result.
Zero Calibration and Measurements
You choose the desired method either from the list of chemical designations (e.g. Cl, COD, Cu) in alphabetical order or by entering a numerical code. An information
picture then appears showing the required vial, the reagent type and the measuring range. The date and time are continuously shown in the display. The
AQUANAL®-PROFESSIONAL SPECTRO 1000 automatically selects the correct wavelength.
Zero calibration is performed with the water sample by pressing the ZERO key.
A characteristic coloration develops when you add the indicator to the water sample. Press the ENTER key to start measurement (which is effected either immediately or after expiry of the coloration time).
Countdown Function
With some methods, the user has to wait for a predefined colour reaction time after adding the indicator to the water sample. This time interval is shown in the display.
The remaining time is continuously displayed. An acoustic signal is emitted during the last 10 seconds of the rundown time. Measurement is then started automatically,
and the result is shown in the display.
Differentiation of Results
The AQUANAL®-PROFESSIONAL SPECTRO 1000 allows differentiated tests for certain methods. With the Chlorine method, for example, differentiated
measurement is possible for free, combined and total chlorine.
Functions
The AQUANAL®-PROFESSIONAL SPECTRO 1000 is ideal for routine laboratory use and is equipped with additional functions for user-specific applications (for
example, the creation of a user-defined method for a routine check).
Spectrum
A wavelength scan is performed in the user-defined interval between 330 and 900 nm. The display shows the graph of the spectrum; if the user presses a key, the display
also shows a data list with the corresponding maximum and minimum absorption levels.
Kinetics
The Kinetics feature enables the user to obtain information on the development of the reaction over time. The delay time up to the start of the first measurement, the
number of test points, and the interval between two measurements are set by the user in line with user requirements.
All data points of the wavelength scan and the kinetics can be transferred to a PC for further evaluation.
Absorption/Transmission
Via this function, the user can - for example - effect measurement of standards with different concentrations using the user-selected wavelength in order to obtain the data
pairs required for a polynome. Result output is in Abs and % Transmission.
Polynomes
The corresponding polynome is created from data pairs (concentration/absorption) with the help of an external mathematical program. A known polynome may also be
used. Up to 10 polynomes of the third order (y = A+Bx+Cx2+Dx3) can be stored together with user-specific parameters such as method
name, wavelength, measuring range and unit.
Concentration
This function can be used to measure 2 to 8 standards. On the basis of the obtained concentrations/absorption pairs, the photometer computes a linear equalisation
curve that can be stored as a method for further sample measurements. Up to 4 methods can be stored.
