Nitrofuran Antibiotics
During an investigation early in 2002, it was discovered that residues of nitrofuran antibiotics occurred in fish products like shrimp and catfish originating from South-East Asian countries. Later on, intensified control revealed that the same residues could also be found in poultry, duck and rabbit imported from this region.
Since the discovery of the occurrence of residues of nitrofurans and their metabolites (AOZ (3-Amino-2-oxazolidinone), AMOZ (5-Methylmorpholino-3-amino-2-oxazolidinone), AHD (1-Aminohydantoin hydrochloride) and SEM (Semicarbazide hydrochloride), numerous scientists have contacted Sigma-Aldrich and asked for analytical standards.
