PDGF Receptors and Actions

The α-PDGF receptor can be activated by either PDGF-A or –B chains, but the β-PDGF receptor can only be activated by PDGF-B chain. Ligand binding to one subunit induces receptor homodimerization or heterodimerization and their autophosphorylation. Cellular responses of the two receptors indicate some differences, e.g., only β-PDGF receptor is anti-apoptotic.
