Introduction
Sigma-Aldrich Fine Chemicals manufactures organic intermediates, custom products and cGMP active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for pharmaceutical and industrial companies around the world. Fluka production GmbH (Buchs, Switzerland), part of the Sigma-Aldrich family, has a strong focus on providing organic intermediates, bulk actives and excipients for the pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, a close cooperation with the production plant at Gillingham (UK) takes place with the possibilitiy of an easy technology transfer from one plant to the other.
Customer requests
Once receiving an enquiry for a custom project, our team does perform an immediate screen of the available information package. Within 48h a decision will be made and communicated whether the project and involved technology is feasible. Thereafter, within a time frame of 5 days a concrete project proposal is issued and taylor made to the customer requirements.
Upon launching the project with the R&D programme, a dedicated team is working on the project lead by a professional project leader. Intensive communication with the customer and comprehensive documentation and reporting round up the project performance.

Production Site
The Fluka plant, employing about 60 people in production, is specialised in complex, multi-step synthesis up to 1600 liters and low temperature reactions (-60 degrees) up to 400 liters. A broad range of production technologies fr a wide range of products and multi-purpose equipment offers batch sizes from grams to tons. Technology strengths are aimed toward low-volume, highly complicated chemistries. Distillation processes for liquid-liquid separation are being performed with fractional stills, rotary or thin film evaporators.
The facility is certified by the Swiss IKS to operate under c-GMP according to ICH guidelines.The cGMP certified production area is often used to manufacture products that are used in pharmaceutical applications.
