'Best Fit' Communication Strategy Launched by SAFC Biosciences

September 17, 2007

Lenexa, KS - September 17, 2007 - Critical Raw Material supplier to the Biopharm Industry, SAFC Biosciences, a member of the Sigma-Aldrich Group (Nasdaq: SIAL), has revealed a global communications strategy to individually address each of its customer groups' needs at every level and position the business as one exclusively focused on therapeutic cell culture.

Key elements of the new approach include an innovative 'Capabilities Cube'- designed to clearly present SAFC Biosciences' levels of service and solutions at every stage of the clinical pipeline- and an enhanced, customer focused marketing organization headed by new Director of Marketing, Bruce Lehr.

A graphic representation of the SAFC Biosciences business, the interactive, multi-tiered Cube can be accessed at www.safcbiosciences.com. It is split into five levels of knowledge- Research, Process Development, Materials Management, Quality Assurance and Manufacturing. Clicking on any of these tiers highlights SAFC Biosciences' specific expertise in this area and allows the user to look up the precise capabilities relevant to their job function.

Bruce Lehr comments,
'The cube is a pioneering tool with which we can more clearly present the complexities of our product offering and our ability to satisfy customer needs in numerous aspects of their businesses. Combined with the restructuring of our marketing, technical and sales functions, the Cube permits us to tailor our message individually to the various customer groups that we serve.'

Archie Cullen, SAFC Biosciences Vice President, Sales and Marketing adds,
'SAFC Biosciences' internal marketing structure now explicitly reflects the process that our customers follow to commercialize their products. Bruce will spearhead our strategy to customize capability solutions for 'best fit' with our customers' organizational structures and processes. Our marketing efforts are underpinned by the broad product capabilities and expertise possessed within the SAFC organisation.'

Involved with cell culture since the late-1980s, Bruce Lehr has held key management positions in SAFC Biosciences' commercial and technical teams over a number of years. These have included responsibility across the range of product management, R&D, marketing and technical sales. He holds advanced professional degrees in Microbiology and Immunology, and in Business Administration.

A key figure in SAFC Biosciences' Sales & Marketing activity will be Technical Marketing Manager, Denise DeTommaso, who will head the full 'in-field' technical team.

In further changes, Michael James has been appointed as Marketing Manager, Process Development, Jeff Davis as Marketing Manager, Manufacturing and Steve Profitt as European Marketing Manager.
