Microreactor Technology

Leading Technology

SAFC employs microreaction technology to extend the possible number of solutions not available through traditional chemical production methods. This technology allows reactions to be performed under more aggressive conditions with higher yields by making use of higher heat and mass transfer rates possible in microfluidic systems as compared to conventional reactors. SAFC currently uses a Cytos Lab System microreactor at its Buchs, Switzerland facility and the technology has been pivotal in the discovery of new reaction pathways deemed too difficult in conventional macroscopic equipment.
  Applications
General process development
High exothermic/hazardous reactions (scale up is impossible because of safety reasons)
Unstable reactions
Products which are instable under reaction conditions
Reactions where side products are difficult to separate

  Advantages
Optimal mixing
Efficient heat transfer
Small reaction volume
Perfect reaction control
High surface to volume ratio
Instead of scale up parallel reaction design
