Crystallization can also play a key role in other methods of asymmetric induction such as bioresolution and transition metal catalysis; the product from these processes may not reach the required specification and a combined catalysis-crystallization approach can provide the most cost-efficient solution.
In such cases, salt screens, acids or bases are be used to find a suitable form for enantiomeric enrichment, such as a conglomerate. The absolute stereochemistry of candidates from these studies can then be confirmed by X-ray crystallography.
