Organics

Sample preparation typically involves partitioning the organic pollutants into an inert headspace through a purge process (for volatile organics) or an organic solvent through an extraction process (for non-volatile organics). Subsequent analysis can then be performed using gas chromatography (GC) or high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) instrumentation. Multiple detectors are available for each technique, each suitable for different compound classes.
