Sample preparation typically involves partitioning the metal pollutants into an inorganic acid through a digestion process. Subsequent analysis can then be performed using inductively coupled plasma (ICP) or atomic adsorption (AA) instrumentation. Multiple wavelengths are often used for detection, each specific for a different metal.
