TLC Plates, PET foil backing

Plates that employ PET (polyethylene terephthalate) are easy to handle, lightweight and flexible. Developed PET-plates can be stored in laboratory notebooks for documentation or cut into strips; options that are not possible with glass plates. However, their flexibility can cause the sorbent layer to break and care must be taken not to allow them to curl during drying and activation processes. They are not as chemically resilient as glass and choices of eluants and visualization reagents on them are more limited.
