Invitation to Submit Manuscripts for Publication
Although there will be no formal published proceedings from BERM 14, the symposium participants are encouraged to submit manuscripts related to their oral or poster contributions to one of the following journals: Accreditation and Quality Assurance (ACQUAL), Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry (ABC), or Journal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL depending on the scope of the respective journals. These submissions would be handled within the usual peer-review process of each journal including pre-screening by the editors for suitability for publication in the specific journal. Further information is available from Hendrik Emons (ACQUAL, JRC-IRMM-ACQUAL@ec.europa.eu) or Stephen A. Wise (ABC, stephen.wise@nist.gov). For J AOAC Int, the manuscripts would be included in a special section on Reference Materials (see invitation details below).

Invitation to Contribute to Special Section of Journal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL
Guest Editors Håkan Emteborg, Ph.D., Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) and Melissa Phillips, Ph.D., National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) invite BERM participants to contribute critical reviews or original research papers to a special section of the Journal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL (J AOAC Int) highlighting analytical research related to reference materials.
This special section will focus on all aspects of preparation, production, characterization, and use of reference materials and certified reference materials related to the interests of AOAC INTERNATIONAL members, including foods and beverages, dietary supplements, infant formula, feeds, fertilizers, soil and water, microbiology, veterinary drugs, and pharmaceuticals.
Print publication of the special section is tentatively scheduled for summer of 2016, and the submission deadline for papers will be February 1, 2016. Earlier submissions are encouraged, and papers will be published online as soon as they have been accepted for publication. All contributions will be subject to the same peer-review process as regular submissions to the journal to ensure that they are within the journal’s usual scope and quality requirements.
A review is expected to present a critical overview of a topic, with critically selected examples (not only from your own work), to point the reader to trends and likely future developments and to give a selection of important references to the current literature. As a guideline, a critical review is expected to be around 35,000 characters in length, plus figures and tables. For a research paper, length must be appropriate to content. There is no strict page limit for research papers, but guideline would be maximum length of up to 25,000 characters including 20-30 references, plus 4-6 figures and 1-3 tables. For more information, please consult the journal's instructions for authors on the J AOAC Int homepage at http://www.aoac.org/pubs/instauth.pdf.
We request that submissions be made online directly to the J AOAC Int editorial office at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/aoac_jaoac. Please indicate clearly that the submission is dedicated to the paper collection on ‘Reference Materials’.
