Natural based ingredients are complex ingredients and are in many cases important for the growth of fastidious microorganisms. These ingredients are mostly sources for carbohydrates, amino and fatty acids. There are also natural mixtures like bile salts which make the medium selective and inhibit the non-obligatory intestinal accompanying flora (most gram positive bacteria).
