Mass Spectrometry Standards

Some highly fluorinated organic compounds are useful as reference materials for mass spectrometry. The reason for their utility in MS applications is three-fold:

  • perfluorinated compounds are generally very stable
  • they have high volatility compared to non-fluorinated materials ot the same molecular mass
  • there is little spectral overlap between the fluorinated reference and non-fluorinated sample, making the interpretation easier
