One-component Reagents

HYDRANAL^®-Composite is the world's most frequently used pyridine-free Karl Fischer reagent for one-component titration. It contains all the reactants, i.e. iodine, sulfur dioxide and imidazole, dissolved in diethyleneglycol monoethyl ether (DEGEE).
Our HYDRANAL R & D laboratory has recently developed an improved formulation for HYDRANAL^®-Composite by using a mixture of imidazole and 2-methylimidazole instead of imidazole only. Significant improvements in the properties of HYDRANAL^®-Composite have been obtained as a result of this change.

Stability

HYDRANAL^®-Composite is stabilized with DEGEE. The loss of titre is approx. 5% a year. Other Karl Fischer reagents contain 2-methoxyethanol (2-ME).

Toxicity

All HYDRANAL^®-Composites are pyridine free and free of 2-methoxyethanol.

Advantages of the one-component titration Unlimited water capacity. Three different titres available. Also convenient for the analysis of ketones. Widely used: many different applications for the determination of 1 - 100 mg water. Suitable for customary volumetric Karl Fischer titrators.
