Solventless injection. SPME is a solventless extraction technique based on the equilibrium between the sample and the coating on the SPME fiber. Exposure of the SPME fiber to the headspace of the sample is enough to ensure extraction of the organics present. The coating on the SPME fiber adsorbs organics directly from the sample matrix without the need of solvents.
