With pre-packed VersaPak cartridges and the VersaFlash station, you can use downward flow or upward flow. Some researchers feel that upward flow leads to more thorough expulsion of air from the cartridge, minimizing the potential for channeling or voiding, which could adversely affect the quality of the separation.
