NOS1 - nitric oxide synthase 1 (neuronal)
Entrez Gene Name: nitric oxide synthase 1 (neuronal)
Entrez GeneID: Human(4842)
, Mouse(18125)
, Rat(24598)
Synonyms: 2310005C01RIK, BNOS, IHPS1, mtNOS, Neuronal no synthase, Nitric oxide synthetase, NNOS, nNOS-2, NO, NOS, NOS-I, NOS1
Gene Summary
- Human (4842): Nitric oxide is a reactive free radical which acts as a biologic mediator in several processes, including neurotransmission and antimicrobial and antitumoral activities. Nitric oxide is synthesized from L-arginine by nitric oxide synthases. This gene encodes a nitric oxide synthase which is highly expressed in skeletal muscle. Genetic variations in this gene are associated with infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis type 1.
- Rat (24598): enzyme that catalyzes the production of nitric oxide [RGD]
