Application

Na2S is used for H2S therapy, to study its effect on the prevention of diabetes in animals.Na2S maybe used to:
• obtain aliphatic and alicyclic γ-keto, γ,γ*-diketo, bis sulfides, thiamono-, and thiabicyclanes by alkylthiomethylation of ketones
• improve myocardial and endothelial function in a canine model of cardiopulmonary bypass
• to study the cytoprotective and anti-inflammatory effects of hydrogen sulfide in macrophages and mice
Na2S is widely used as a laboratory reagent in both sulfide and non metallic mineral flotation.

General description

Cubic crystals of sodium sulfide (Na2S) are extremely hygroscopic in nature and discolor on exposure to air. Na2S is soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol and insoluble in ether. Aqueous solutions of Na2S are strongly alkaline.
