Application

Antimony(III) chloride may be used as a catalyst in Biginelli reaction of urea, aromatic aldehydes and acetoacetate esters yielding dihydropyrimidinones.

General description

Antimony(III) chloride is a catalysing agent. The catalytic effect were initially studied in urea, benzaldehyde and methyl isobutyrylacetate to give 6-isopropyl-5-methoxycarbonyl-4-phenyl-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one.
