Other Notes

Glutaraldehyde, 4%, in borate buffer, pH 7.6.

Application

Glutaraldehyde solution has been used for the enzyme and redox mediator immobilization as well as for depositing colloidal gold (Aucoll) onto the cyst self-assembled monolayers (SAMs).1 The product has also been used along with tricalcium phosphate to form a glutaraldehyde cross linked gelatin (GTG) scaffold incorporated with bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), which in turn is utilized as a substitute for bone tissue engineering.2

Biochem/physiol Actions

Glutaraldehyde is a low molecular weight dialdehyde that possess potent bactericidal, fungicidal, mycobactericidal, sporicidal, and virucidal activity.3 It serves as a fixative in bioprostheses and its cross-linking property impacts the biological performance of numerous bioprostheses such as tissue heart valves, vascular grafts, pericardial patches, tendon grafts and aids investigation of drug delivery matrices.4
