powder, slightly brown, ~1 U/mg

Synonym: Triacylglycerol acylhydrolase, Triacylglycerol lipase

Purchase

Description

Biochem/physiol Actions

Mucor miehei lipase hydrolizes triglycerides and catalyzes the synthesis of esters from glycerol and long-chain fatty acids in vitro.

Tri-, di-, and monoglycerides are hydrolyzed (in decreasing order of rate).

Lipases catalyze the hydrolysis of triacylglycerols into glycerol and free fatty acids.

Tri-, di-, and monoglycerides are hydrolyzed (in decreasing order of rate).

Other Notes

Characterization; In the synthesis of fatty hydroxamic acids; Esterification

Unit Definition

1 U corresponds to the amount of enzyme which liberates 1 μmol oleic acid per minute at pH 8.0 and 40 °C (triolein, Cat. No. 62314 as substrate)

Application

Lipases are used industrially for the resolution of chiral compounds and the transesterification production of biodiesel.
