General description
B cells predominantly secrete IgM antibodies as pentamers, but may also secrete them as hexamers which are capable of activating the complement cascade more efficiently. 1
Other Notes
No cross-reaction with mouse and rat IgG.
Preparation Note
Prepared by the two-step glutaraldehyde method described by Avrameas, S., et al., Scand. J. Immunol., 8, Suppl. 7, 7 (1978).
Specificity
Binds human IgM; does not bind other human Igs.
Provides reduced background with mouse or rat samples.
Physical form
Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline pH 7.4, containing 0.01% thimerosal
Application
Anti- Human IgM was used in an ELISA assay to determine the concentration of IgM secreted by CH12 B lymphoma cells stimulated by LPS. 1
