Ajoene inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis of several leukemic and non-leukemic cancer cell lines.
A sulfur-containing constituent of garlic with lipid-lowering, antithrombotic, and antiproliferative properties. Inhibits cholesterol and isoprenoid synthesis through inhibition of HMG-CoA reductase and the mevalonate pathway. It also inhibits protein prenylation required for cell proliferation.
