Description

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 20-33 of actin, attached to a multiple antigen peptide (MAP) backbone.

Physical form

Supplied as ascites fluid containing 15 mM sodium azide as a preservative.

Application

Indirect Immunofluorescent assays were performed using rabbit monoclonal anti-actin antibody (1:400) to show actin aggregates at the site of parasitic attachment in bovine fallopian epithelial cells. Cells were blocked with 5% normal goat serum-PBSt prior to antibody addition.

Rabbit monoclonal anti-actin (20-33) antibody is suitable for use in immunocytochemistry, indirect ELISA, and immunohistochemistry assays. It may also be used for indirect immunofluorescence (1:400) and western blot (1:50-1:100 using chicken gizzard total extract) applications.

General description

Actins are cytoskeletal proteins that regulate cell motility. Several scaffolding, signaling and actin-binding proteins regulate the interconversions between filamentous F-actins and monomeric G-actins. Cellular actins of various species have very similar immunological and physical properties. Hence, the use of monoclonal antibody to actin provides a specific and useful tool for studying the localization, structure and function of actin proteins.
Rabbit monoclonal anti-actin (20-33) antibody recognizes an epitope located on the C-terminal end of actin conserved in all actin isoforms. It specifically labels actin in a wide variety of tissues and species. The antibody reacts with human, chicken and rat actin. Furthermore, the epitope recognized by the antibody is resistant to formalin-fixation and paraffin-embedding. Zinc-formalin, B5, ethanol, methacarn, Brunnel′s or Bouin′s solutions may also be used as fixatives.
