General description

Activins are members of the TGF-β family. Activins are dimeric proteins composed of 2 beta subunits. Acitivn A contains 2 β A subunits. Activins bind to the Type II Activin receptor triggering phosphorylation of Type I Acitivn receptor (ALK4) and activation of downstream pathways such as proliferation and apoptosis.

Monoclonal anti-activin A βA subunit antibody can neutralize the bioactivity of recombinant human activin A. It also recognizes activin A precursors. Furthermore, the antibody binds to activin A βA subunit and inhibin A βA subunit by capture ELISA.
