Description

Immunogen

Purified egg white avidin.

Application

Immunohistochemistry was performed on 4% paraformaldhyde fixed mouse brain sections. After incubation with primary antibody, the sections were treated with a biotinylated secondary antibody and the with texas-red conjugated egg white avidin. The signal was then amplified by treating samples with mouse monoclonal anti-avidin (A5680) at a dilution of 1:1000.

Mouse Monoclonal Anti-Avidin antibody has been used for ELISA assays at 3-5mg/ml. The antibody has also been used for immunocytochemistry at 1:2000 or 1:4000 dilutions.

General description

Avidin is homotetrameric protein (68kDa) that is obtained from egg whites. This egg protein binds strongly to biotin. Thus, avidin-biotin association has been utilized in immunoassays to detect the localization of antigens in tissues. The use of avidin-biotin immunoassay enhances the sensitivity of the technique and facilitates the detection of antigens in low quantities.

The antibody binds to the avidin molecule without interfering with the biotin-binding reaction. The product reacts specifically with egg white avidin, ExtrAvidin and their complexes formed with biotin. The antibody shows no cross-reaction with streptavidin.
