Description

Biochem/physiol Actions

Betulinic acid, a pentacyclic triterpene, selectively induces apoptosis in tumor cells by directly activating the mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis through a p53- and CD95-independent mechanism.

Application

Betulinic acid (BetA), a pentacyclic triterpene anticancer candidate, may be used to study its function and activity as an activator of mitochondrial pathway apoptosis involving p53- and CD95-independent mechanisms. Betulinic acid is used to study its potential cardiovascular role in the modulation of endothelium-dependent relaxation.
