General description

Creatine kinase, mitochondrial 1B is known as CKMT1B which encodes the ubiquitous mitochondrial creatine kinase (uMtCK). It belongs to creatine kinase isoenzyme family. It exists as two isoenzymes, sarcomeric MtCK and ubiquitous MtCK which is encoded by separate genes located on chromosome 15.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Yale Center for High Throughput Cell Biology IF-tested antibodies. Each antibody is tested by immunofluorescence against HUVEC cells using the Yale HTCB IF protocol. Anti-CKMT1B (126-140) antibody produced in rabbit is suitable for western blotting at a dilution of 1:500-1:2,000.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Mitochondrial creatine kinases (MtCK) play a key role in myocardial energy homeostasis along with hexokinase. It plays a central role in energy transduction. It is responsible for the transfer of high energy phosphate from mitochondria to the cytosolic carrier called creatine. Over expression of uMtCK in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) may cause hepatocarcinogenesis and is associated with highly malignant potential.
