Biochem/physiol Actions

Cysteine dioxygenase 1 (CDO1) gene is a non-heme structured, iron-containing metalloenzyme involved in the conversion of cysteine to cysteine sulfinate in humans. Its expression is controlled by promoter methylation and acts as a novel tumor suppressor gene. CDO1 can act as a valuable molecular marker for human cancer. It also plays a key role in taurine biosynthesis. CDO1 silencing contributes to the survival of oxidative-stressed breast cancer cells through increased detoxification of ROS and thus leads to the resistance to ROS-generating chemotherapeutics including anthracyclines.
