Description

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 300-311 of human caspase 5 protein.

General description

The gene Caspase 5 (CASP5) is mapped to human chromosome 11q22–23. It is a member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family. CASP5 is particularly detected in placenta, lung, liver, spleen, small intestine, colon and peripheral blood lymphocytes.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Application

Monoclonal Anti-Caspase 5 antibody produced in mouse is suitable for the following applications:
• Indirect ELISA
• Microarray
• Western blotting at a concentration of 5-10μg/mL using a whole extract of HeLa cells activated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS)

Biochem/physiol Actions

Caspase-5 (CASP5) mRNA synthesis, protein expression and catalytic activation are highly regulated in response to various pro-inflammatory stimuli, ATP and ER stress inducers. Caspase-5, in association with Caspase-1 may work in modulating human retinal pigment epithelial (hRPE) inflammatory responses. It may have an important role in the inflammatory response in psoriasis and its inactivation may play a role in the tumorigenesis of microsatellite instability (MSI)-positive cancers. CASP5 is up-regulated in inflammatory bowel disease-associated intestinal inflammation. It is elevated in serum of patients with cervical cancer.
