Description

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to the human N-terminal of procaspase 6α isoform (amino acids 27-44 with C-terminal added cysteine), conjugated to BSA. This sequence corresponds to the N-terminal of the human enzyme p18 subunit.

General description

Caspase-6 (CASP6) is an enzyme encoded by the CASP6 gene in humans. It is a neuron degeneration-related protease and considered to be a potential drug-design target against neurodegenerative diseases.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 1% BSA and 15 mM sodium azide

Specificity

The antibody reacts specifically with procaspase 6 (Mch2).

Application

Anti-Caspase 6 antibody produced in rabbit is suitable for microarray and western blotting at a dilution of 1:1,000 using Jurkat human T-cell leukemia cell extract.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Caspase-6 is strongly activated in Alzheimer disease brains and Huntington′s disease. It is important in most tissues during early development and is less involved in adult tissues. The low levels of Caspase-6 in fetal and adult brain indicate increased expression in Alzheimer Disease while the high levels of Caspase-6 in the gastrointestinal system indicate specific function of Caspase-6 in this tissues. It is a cysteinyl protease inducing axonal degeneration and is activated early in Alzheimer Disease (AD) brains. Casp6 is associated with the risk of developing AD in aged individuals.
