General description

Caspases are cysteine proteases that mainly regulate apoptosis signaling. Caspase 9 is activated by the apoptosome complex and initiates apoptosis via the mitochondrial route . Anti-Caspase 9 specifically recognizes the proform and the active cleaved form of human caspase 9, but cross-reactivity has also been observed in rats. Staining of caspase 9 by immunoblotting is specifically inhibited with the immunizing peptide.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 1% bovine serum albumin and 15 mM sodium azide.


Anti-Caspase 9 antibody is suitable for use in immunoprecipitation (10 μg using 500 μg HeLa mitochondrial RIPA lysate), microarray and western blot (1:300 using whole extract of human Jurkat cells). The antibody may also be used in immunohistochemistry (in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections at 1:40 dilution, using microwave-treated tissue sections of human and rat heart). Additionally, the antibody product is useful for immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation (approx. 47 kDa and 35 kDa) assays. An additional band of higher molecular weight (approx. 70 kDa) may also be detected in some cell line extracts.
