General description

Keratin 18 (K18) is a type I cytokeratin. Cytokeratin 18 (CYK18) is a cytoskeletal protein associated with apoptosis. It is studied that cytokeratin 18 levels in the mild pancreatitis group were significantly higher than in the severe pancreatitis group. It acts as a marker of apoptosis and might be a serological predictive marker for acute pancreatitis for disease activity. CK-18 is considered as a promising plasma biomarker to identify patients with HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets) syndrome.


Binds to an epitope present on human cytokeratin polypeptide 18 of the acidic cytokeratin subfamily. The antibody reacts with a variety of simple epithelia (e.g., intestine, liver), but does not stain stratified squamous epithelia (e.g., esophagus, epidermis) or non-epithelial cells.


Monoclonal Anti-Cytokeratin CK5 antibody produced in mouse is suitable for microarray and indirect immunofluorescence at a dilution of 1:50 using frozen human tissue sections.
