Biochem/physiol Actions

Aprotinin is a competitive serine protease inhibitor that inhibits trypsin, chymotrypsin, kallikrein and plasmin. It is often used to suppress proteolysis during isolation of proteins from cells and tissues. Aprotinin forms a stable 1:1 complex with the protease and blocks its active site. Binding is reversible with most aprotinin-protease complexes dissociating at pH >10 or <3. Effective concentration equimolar with protease.
