General description

The antibody does not cross-react with human IL-1β, IL-2, IL-3, IL-6, TNF-α, TNF-β, or mouse GM-CSF.

Physical form

Solution, 0.2 μm filtered, in 0.5 mL phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.


Anti-Interleukin-1α antibody produced in rabbit was used in immunoblotting of anti- and pro-apoptotic proteins at a dilution of 1:1000.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Interleukins are proinflammatory cytokines produced on cell injury or trauma. There are two closely related types of interleukins produced by the cell, IL-1α and IL-1β that are produced in response to bacterial infection or LPS. Both IL-1α and IL-1β exert their cellular effects by signaling through IL-1 receptor type 1. The effects of IL-1α are mediated by activation of NF-κB, JNK and MAPK pathways that activated the genes in response to infection and inflammation. Overproduction of IL-1α has been implicated in inflammatory disorders like rheumatoid arthritis and periodontitis.
