General description

Interleukin-1 is a proinflammatory cytokine produced on cell injury or trauma. There are two closely related types of interleukins produced by the cell, IL-1α and IL-1β that exert their cellular effects by signaling through IL-1 receptor type 1 (IL-1R1). IL-1 recruits Interleukin-1 Receptor Accessory Protein (IL-1RAcP) that stabilizes the ligand-receptor association. IL-1RAcP is expressed by astrocytes and neurons in the brain. IL-1RAcP does not regulate the responses of IL-1 directly but modulates the gene expression and inflammatory responses induced by IL-1. IL-1RAcP is critical in mediating the activation of IRAK and SAPK pathways by IL-1. Anti-Interleukin-1 Receptor Accessory Protein antibody recognizes human, mouse and rat IL-1RAcP (~66 kDa). There is no cross-reactivity to other members in the IL-1 and IL-18 receptor families.
