General description

Keratinocyte growth factor (KGF, FGF-7) is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family and is produced by cells of mesenchymal origin. The receptor for KGF is primarily expressed on the surface of epithelial cells and mediates mesenchymal-epithelial communication. There are multiple functions for KGF including proliferation, migration, DNA repair, differentiation, survival and production of enzymes to nullify the effects of reactive oxygen species. The expression of KGF is reportedly induced by cytokines such as IL-1 and transforming growth factor-α. Some of the pathways that are influenced by KGF are Akt, RSK1 and PAK4. Recent studies implicate KGF in epithelial tumorigenesis under specific situations
Anti-Keratinocyte Growth Factor recognizes human FGF-7. This antibody shows less than 20% cross-reactivity with human FGF-9 and less than 10% cross-reactivity with human FGF-4.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline with 5% trehalose.


Anti-keratinocyte growth factor antibody may be used to neutralize the biological activity of human KGF at a neutralization dose of ~6-12 μg/ml. The recommended concentration for immunoblotting is 0.1-0.2 μg/ml. For ELISA, a working antibody concentration of 0.5-1.0 μg/ml may be used. Immunohistochemistry of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections may be performed using a concentration of 15 μg/ml.
