What is Sephadex LH-20, Product LH20100?
Sephadex LH-20 is a beaded, cross-linked dextran which has been hydroxypropylated to yield a chromatographic media with both hydrophilic and lipophilic character.  Due to its dual character, LH-20 swell in water and a number of organic solvents.  The particle size and exclusion limit vary depending on the solvent used for swelling.  The swollen resin can be used for gel filtration separations of both hydrophilic and lipophilic compounds.
What solvents can be used with Sephadex LH-20, Product LH20100?
Sephadex LH-20 swells in water, polar organic solvents, aqueous solvent mixtures, and mixtures of polar organic solvents.  In solvent mixtures containing both polar and non-polar organic solvents the gel takes up predominantly the polar component.   Following is a table of solvents and the approximate swelling volume.  Solvents giving a bed volume of less than 2.5 ml/g dry gel are generally not used. Solvent                           Approx. bed volume (ml/g dry gel) Dimethyl sulfoxide           4.4 – 4.6 Pyridine                          4.2 – 4.4 Water                             4.0 – 4.4 Dimethyl formamide        4.0 – 4.4 Methanol                        3.9 – 4.3 Chloroform                     3.8 – 4.1 Ethanol                           3.6 – 3.9 Methylene dichloride       3.6 – 3.9 Tetrahydrofuran              3.3 – 3.6 Acetone                          2.4 – 2.6 Acetonitrile                     2.2 – 2.4 Benzene                         1.6 – 2.0 Ethyl acetate                   1.6 – 1.8 Toluene                          1.5 – 1.6
