Description

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to human melanin-concentrating hormone conjugated to KLH. The MCH sequence is identical in many species including rat, mouse, and pig.

General description

Melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH) is a circulating cyclic neuropeptide first discovered in fish and subsequently in mammalian (rat) hypothalamus. In fish, MCH is mainly involved in the coloration of skin my regulating the melanin production by the melanocytes. The sites of MCH detection are hypothalamus, brain, zona incerta, thymus, adipose tissue, duodenum and testis. The effects of MCH in humans are mediated by two G protein-coupled receptors, MCH1R and MCH2R, mainly expressed throughout the brain. The functions of MCH in mammals include regulation of feeding behavior, stress, anxiety, sleep, depression and energy homeostasis
Anti-MCH recognizes human MCH. It does not cross-react with α-MSH, β-MSH, γ-MSH, α-endorphin, β-endorphin, human ACTH (1-39), and ACTH (1-24).

Physical form

Solution in phosphate buffered saline containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Application

Anti-MCH antibody may be used at a working dilution of 1:30000 for RIA. For immunohistochemistry of mouse hypothalamus sections, a working antibody dilution of 1:200 may be used. The antibody has been used for immunoblotting in cytoplasmic extracts of T cells at a concentration of 5.7 μg/ml. The antibody is suitable for protein microarray.
