Application

• Hydrolyzes 5′-terminal monophosphate (dephosphorylation) from DNA and RNA.
• Prevents fragments from self annealing.
• 5′-nucleic acid targeting for probes.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Bacterial alkaline phosphatase1,2 has a broad spectrum of hydrolytic activity upon most phosphomonoester bonds of DNA, RNA and 5′-nucleotides. However , the enzyme will not digest di- and triphosphate linkages.1

Unit Definition

One unit will hydrolyze 1 μmole of 4-nitrophenyl phosphate per minute at pH 9.8 at 37°C.2
