Application

TATA binding protein restores the activity of heat-inactivated HeLa cell nuclear extract.

Biochem/physiol Actions

TATA binding protein (TBP) is central to the expression of all eukaryotic genes. It complexes specifically with a TATA-associated factor (TAF) and interacts with TATA base sequences during transcription. TAFs SL1, TFIID, and TFIIIB are specific for transcription in RNA polymerase I, II, and III systems, respectively.
