Phosphosdiesterase inhibitor; weak adenosine receptor antagonist; diuretic; smooth muscle relaxant.
Theobromine is moderately soluble in aqueous base and is slightly soluble in water and ethanol.
Theobromine has been used for estrogen receptor α-binding assays under in vitro conditions6. Theobromine has also been used to develop reversed-phase HPLC methods for assaying its levels in beverages, chocolate and human urine7.
