Vimentin is a 58 kD class III intermediate filament present mainly in mesenchymal cells. It regulates cell shape, motility and endurance of mechanical stress in mesenchymal cells4. Monoclonal anti-vimentin antibody can be used for the localization of vimentin by various immunochemical assays like immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry and immunoprecipitation. Frozen B5 fixed and formalin fixed, paraffin embedded tissue sections can be stained using anti-vimentin antibody. Mouse monoclonal anti-vimentin antibody reacts specifically with an epitope of the cytoskeletal protein vimentin (58kD). The product shows cross reactivity with vimentin from bovine, human, pig, sheep, cat, rat, mouse and rabbit.
Recognizes an epitope of the cytoskeleton protein vimentin that is not detected in human lymphoid cells or derived malignancies. It is therefore useful in differentiating sarcomas from lymphomas.
Monoclonal Anti-Vimentin antibody can be used in immunocytochemistry1 and immunohistochemical staining2. It can also be used in immunofluorescence staining (diluted 1: 500) 3.
