Biochem/physiol Actions

Lactoperoxidase catalyzes the oxidation of iodide to iodine by hydrogen peroxide. This activity provides a gentle, specific alternative to chloramine T for the radioiodination of proteins and DNA.

1 U corresponds to the amount of enzyme which oxidizes 1 μmol ABTS (Fluka No. 11557) per minute at pH 6.0 and 25°C

One unit will form 1.0 mg of purpurogallin from pyrogallol in 20 sec at pH 6.0 at 20 °C.
