Application
This cell line was established from the adenocarcinoma of the lower esophagus (Barrett's metaplasia) of a 73-year-old female patient. The tumor was identified as pathological stage IIA (UICC) and showed poor differentiation. OE33 cells express HLA-A, -B, and -C antigens (MHC class I) and ICAM-1 constituitively. Expression of HLA-DR (MCH class II) can be induced by treatment with γ-interferon. The cells express epithelial cytokeratins and are tumorigenic in nude mice.
Subculture: Split at 70-80 % confluency, approx. 1:8, seed at 1 × 104 viable cells/cm2. Trypsinize using 0.25 % solution, with or without EDTA, 37 oC and 5% CO2. Initially cells grow slowly and can take up to 7 days until ready for the next split. 50% change of culture medium is recommended every 2-3 days.
Recommended culture medium: RPMI-1640 + 2 mM L-Glutamine + 10% FBS.
