Analysis Note
The biological activity is measured by its ability to inhibit hemoglobin expression induced by activin in K562 cells.
Physical form
Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline with 5 mg bovine serum albumin.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Activin isoforms are members of the TGF-β superfamily that bind to heteromeric complexes of a type I and a type II serine/threonine kinase receptor, both of which are essential for signal transduction. In addition to the activin isoforms, activin receptor II binds inhibin, BMP-2 and BMP-7. Human, murine and rat type II activin receptors demonstrate greater than 98% homology.
