Biochem/physiol Actions
Activin receptor IB/Fc chimera does not bind directly to activin or inhibin but will associate with the type II receptor-activin complex and initiate signal transduction. Type I receptor-activins also bind and form signaling complexes with the BMP-2/7-bound BMPR-II. Activin isoforms are members of the TGF-β superfamily that bind to heteromeric complexes of type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptor, both of which are essential for signal transduction. Human, murine and bovine type IB activin receptors demonstrate greater than 98% homology.
