Features and Benefits
Substance P EIA is fast (total incubation time 3 hours), specific (measures levels with no cross-reactivity with neurokinins and somatostatins), and sensitive (sensitivity less than 8.04 pg/mL). All components are stable at 2-8 ºC. Sample recovery for various matrices, ranges from 81% (cell culture supernatants diluted 1:2) to 100% (porcine heparin plasma). High assay precision, intra-assay CV 5.2-6.7% and inter-assay CV 4.2-7.3%.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Substance P is an 11 amino acid (H-Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-Phe-Gly-Leu-Met-NH2) peptide that is synthesized in ribosomes as a larger protein and then enzymatically converted into the active peptide. The peptide belongs to the tachykinin family and is widely distributed in the peripheral and central nervous systems of vertebrates, where it acts as a neurotransmitter. Substance P is involved in pain, anxiety, depression and inflammation.
