Biochem/physiol Actions

DBA has anti-A₁ human blood group specificity, useful for distinguishing between A₁ and A₂ blood types. DBA has strong anti-Cad activity,¹ and has an affinity for terminal N-acetyl-α-D-galactosaminyl residues.² Conjugates are prepared from affinity purified lectin.

Preparation Note

Prepared from peroxidase type VI (P8375) using a modification of the method of O'Sullivan³, which favors low molecular weight conjugates.

Unit Definition

One unit will form 1 mg purpurogallin in 20 sec from pyrogallol at pH 6.0 at 20 °C.
