Member of the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor family of ligands. Exerts potent effects on the function and survival of central and peripheral neurons. Activates the RET receptor tyrosine kinase, MAP kinase, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase pathways. Human and mouse NTN share 91% sequence identity.
